So gently, Piura-based factortierra.net website’s director Nelson Peñaherrera, 35, also weight-lifting and healthy lifestyles fan, receives us when they are launching an improved version of their site, one of the few that speaks openly about non-discrimination, health and much more.
HUNKS OF PIURA: You’ve got an award recently. How do you feel?
NELSON PEÑAHERRERA:factortierra.net has gotten it actually for the work we’re doing with Malingas and Malingas Alto communities, so credit is all crew’s.
HOP: Which award was it?
NP: It was Environmental Citizenship 2011 for Best Media Campaign.
HOP: But factortierra.net is not Only about environmental issues.
NP: Apparently not, but all the site is focused on it.
HOP: But bioespacio spoke about sports too.
NP: It’s because there’s a prejudge about environment. People forget is all, absolutely all around us, including us.
HOP: And how environment includes sports?
NP: Sports have two basic benefits – physical, mental health. With physical health, you can have energy to live better, because it’s not only about simple exercise, but good feeding, resting, no vices, more live energy. That impacts on your mental health because it opens your mind, become you more sensitive. If you get it, you’ll be able to be more comprehensive with yourself, your near environment and with the large environment. You got it?
HOP: Many people don’t understand it so.
NP: It’s because education we receive. It’s plenty of repressive contents, prejudges, estereotypes. When you realize that universe is free and deep, it’s when you understand how squared educative system can turn you.
HOP: Do you think we still have many prejudges?
NP: Yep. For sure!
HOP: Where did you learn all that conception of environment and sports?
NP: I’m a media specialist, so one thing I gotta do everyday is to survey my reality almost up-to-the-minute, and to question it for finding answers. Many people think it also is made by scholars but not – any person can do it with a few of will and mind opening.
WE’RE ARTWORKS
HOP: Do you practice Sports?
NP: Yes. I do cardio and weights every morning.
HOP: That explains your physique.
NP: Well, I hope it so. One of my partners, who is plastic artist, thinks that first artwork we have to work is us. He paints and also is a bodybuilding fan.
HOP: Is that why you included Piurano athletes on your website?
NP: (Laughs) I guess to know where the question goes. Well, yes in part, but they are not only good shapes. If you check out materials for good, they are part of stories that took much reflection and research time to us. I thank all the visits from your blo to our “Dead Weight” storyg, anyway; but I hope you read it complete.
HOP: We read it, and you Talk about many prejudges on weight-lifting, on there.
NP: Welll, I didn’t write it but I was on research crew, and the truth is clearand that is so dangerous because it opens space to others take advantage of ignorance and desperation of anothers and can give bad for good, as steroids.
HOP: Photo production is good for sure.
NP: Thanks. It had lots of production and good taste behind.
HOP: Something unusual in Piura.
NP: That might not be so, because we have a great Arts School. We didn’t do other thing but to hear those talents and we got the result you have apreciated.
HOP: Was it complicated to make models photos?
NP: No, because they know what is the destination and inttention of those materials, although you ever have the doubt about how the public will receive it but it was good until date.
HOP: And if you work out too, why didn’t pose?
NP: (Laughs) I did propose myself but our Art Producer said I don’t have enough mass, however on our YouTube channel I host a video called “Adaptation Training” (in Spanish: Entrenamiento de adaptación)and believe me – it’s not easy to stay in front of camera.
HOP: Why?
NP: You are under pressure of your producer or scene director who is caring that shot is good, that sound is good, that it uses for editing. I understood that one thing is giving orders but other different is being under others’ orders. In spite of it, it was funny because I also participated on creative process.
HOP: Would you do again?
NP: If neded, why not.
“IT’S TIME TO EVOLVE”
HOP: You were the first Piurano website in publish a male nude as part of your design NP: Yes, it was on the bioespacio’s first version and we rescued it when we modified the format almost three years ago.
HOP: Why didnpt you let it?
NP: Because we were losing model image’s using authorization and due to we have public loggin on from cybercafes, and in some of them, biospacio was programmed as adult content.
HOP: But it was not adult content.
NP: Yes, I know, and it was absurd. We had to produce something less naked and the problem was fixed.
HOP: Why did you leave producing bioespacio?
NP:Because it’s time to evolve. you must know when a product closes a circle, and bioespacio already did it. However, with no inttention, it served as matrix for three new sections that talk about health, human rights and geotourism.
HOP: and will you save stories as “Dead Weight”?
NP: Oh, that material is part of archives so it’s not touched, however it will be available through Optimus now, that will turn into a periodical updating section.
HOP: Are there stories like those on their way?
NP: Yes, but you stole us some ideas, but we’re gonna see what we can do.
HOP: Will you publish pictures as “Dead Weight”’s?
NP: I don’t know. It depends on we determine when every material be pre-produced, but I can say that story has caused some impact, incluisive it has inspired to some college students to investigate one of the problems we publish there, but I prefer not to give details because of respect to them. But my point is our job sets a precedent and that is good.
DOUBLE MORALITY
HOP: What do you think about male nude?
NP: The same about female’s. if it has good taste and sense, it can be a great artwork.
HOP: And about porn?
NP: Before, let’s define porn. If you’re gonna exploit morbidity because of morbidity, or persons, definetly people’s gonna to eat garbage, and in that sense I believe there are more nocive contents on media than a nude or penetration, so I don’t wanna play with double morality. I think discussion goes by good sense and talent treatment perspective.
HOP: Is there much double morality in Piura?
NP: Too much. Human traffic, for instance. you see half of people rejecting it but but guess where they go to celebrate – bars where there are girls those are human trafic victims, so what are we talking about?
HOP: You also have fought all kinds of discrimination.
NP: We’ve got to pass the first Piura’s local anti-discrimination law, in Sullana, but as I said to a media last Saturday, our frustration is that municipality isn’t working on its implementation.
HOP: But, do you believe there is discrimination?
NP: Yes, for sure! If you’re among similars, you won’t notice it, however you just need quite a difference and you’ll see somebody will slap the door on your nose.
HOP: But in Piura?
NP: That’s why I tell you that you need quite a difference for our best discrimination behavior appears.
HOP: What’s it caused by?
NP: Look, the problem are our educative systen anti-values that teach you prejudges, to repress yourself, to be adjusted to a model that it’s not a local creation either.
HOP: That happened to you?
NP: Well, I studied a school where fashion label was important, I had a homophobic teacher. When I started to work I had to re-learn lots of things, and for many, I’m an unadapted, renegade guy .
HOP: And are you so?
NP: I’m myself. If you like me, it’s OK. If not, I’m sorry – I’m not alienable.
HOP: Thanks for the interview. Anything more to say?
NP: No. thank you. Go ahead until you get your own URL (Laughs), and for your audience – read a lot, don’t believe in first people say you, do much sports, appreciate art, make a difference. And when we launch the new website version, visit factortierrra.net/optimus and factortierra.net/zld (both in Spanish)
HOP Is it possible follow you by social media?
NP: Well my Twitter account is @nelsonsullana (also in English), and if you log on website, you’ll find out our Facebook community.
